The ideal length of an ice bath is 10 minutes, this maximises the cryotherapy benefits of cold water immersion without inducing excessive stress or putting tissues at risk of frostbite or the body at risk of hypothermia.
How can I benefit from using an ice bath?
Cold water immersion or ice baths, help reduce tissue swelling due to muscle breakdown and micro tears that occur during intense or lengthy physical activity and, also, help to control inflammation.
Some inflammation is a good thing but too much can result in secondary damage or hypoxic injury.

What is the optimum temperature for ice bath recovery?
For an ice bath, the water should be around 10-15 degrees Celsius (around 50-60 Fahrenheit). This usually takes around 10 minutes to achieve if using a 3:1 water to ice ratio. however after long term testing using just regular tap water, we've found you do not need to add ice, you will benefit from cold water therapy at a temperature of around 15 degrees celsius or below when set up outside.
